Selena Suarez

Meet Selena Suarez, an Elementary Education major from Grand Haven, Mi. Selena plans to graduate in 2026.

I decided to come to NMU because I liked how small the campus was. I also liked that there is so much to do in Marquette. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and be able to try new things that I wasn't able to do in my home town.

Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to become a teacher. As I got older I turned that dream more into a reality by attending the Ottawa area Careerline Tech Center, teachers academy. This class really helped me to decide what kind of teacher I wanted to be.

One really cool thing about NMU is that when it was founded in 1899, it was actually a school for students to become teachers. I haven't done anything that is a part of my major just yet because I am currently taking all of my gen eds but I can't wait to start taking all of the classes to become a teacher.

I am a member of Art Therapy Club, which has been really rewarding and a great stress reliver.

Be northern means the ability to be with like minded people and getting to explore with all of those awesome people.

If you like to explore, try new things and be apart of something great, this college is for you. You also can't be afraid of a little cold weather.

My NMU experience so far has been really great. It's challenging at times but you'll meet so many great people along the way and they will be your cheerleaders.
