Meet Skye Ritchings, a Biology major, from Roscommon, MI. She plans to graduate in 2024.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
NMU was a place I knew that could let my creativity flow and find myself. There’s so much you can do in this “little” town, that I knew would keep me busy.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I decided my major when I went on a manatee trip in Florida last January. Once I saw how passionate the guide was about manatees and I wanted a career that was going satisfy me. I chose from that day on to switch my major to Marine Biology.
What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
The most rewarding experience was watching the UP 200 start and jumping off of Black Rocks. It was so different for me and I loved trying things I haven’t done before.
Do you have any advice for someone who is considering NMU?
I would tell them that NMU is a place like no other. If you love being outdoors, supporting small businesses, and hockey you will love it at NMU. There’s no other university like Northern, go ‘Cats!
What does “be Northern” mean to you?
Be Northern, to me, means to experience everything Northern Michigan can bring you. Take every moment you have in Marquette and soak it all in. Have fun with your friends, study hard and pass all of your class, etc.
