Introduction to Reading and Vocabulary

This course will provide students with the necessary instruction to understand, interpret, and evaluate simple written English for a variety of purposes. Students will practice and engage in a variety of reading strategies throughout the reading process to extract meaning from a variety of authentic texts on common academic and cultural themes. Through engagement of text, students will begin to develop critical thinking skills and techniques for thoughtful response. This course will provide students with various strategies for building and understanding vocabulary. Students will be expected to collaborate with classmates to complete a variety of assignment types.
