In this course, students will continue to develop their listening and speaking skills necessary for academic success and for appropriate participation in social communication in an English-speaking community. In preparation for advanced study in English, this course will provide students with daily opportunities to engage in small group and class discussion on academic and social/cultural topics while developing the necessary skills and resources to improve comprehension. Instruction will focus primarily on the development of fluency in the student’s spoken communication, but will, in addition, emphasize accuracy in production at a pre-intermediate level. Students will develop and practice new strategies for listening to and comprehending social and academic conversations and spoken text on various topics. In addition, students will prepare and deliver modified formal academic speeches/presentations throughout the course. They will collaborate with classmates to complete a variety of assignment types.
