The College of Technology and Occupational Sciences is located in Northern Michigan University's Jacobetti Complex. The complex is located on NMU’s North Campus (on Sugar Loaf Avenue) and spans nearly five acres. The complex is named for longtime Upper Peninsula Representative Dominic J. Jacobetti.
The Jacobetti Complex features more than 40 specialized laboratories and classrooms. Students learn skills in mechanical and electrical engineering, hospitality management, cosmetology, automotive repair, construction management, building technology, electronics, industrial technology and skilled trades such as HVAC, welding, industrial maintenance and computer numerical control (CNC).
Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences
The college is home to the Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences. The department offers a full complement of programs and courses of study, ranging from diploma and certificate to associate and baccalaureate degrees. They also work closely with industry and businesses to provide many hands-on opportunities and internships. Some of the internships are with companies that have business operations across the nation.
Career and Technical Education
Career and technical education (CTE) focuses on high-demand, high-skill and relatively high-wage occupations. It seeks to better connect the skills and degrees that students are pursuing with the jobs that are currently available and expected to grow within the next ten years. Many of these careers are in the professional trades, business and information technology fields, health care and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) areas.
The College of Technology and Occupational Sciences office is at Northern Michigan University's Jacobetti Complex, Room 101, located off of Sugarloaf Avenue.
