ARMY ROTC SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Basic Camp is a 32-day paid Leadership Internship designed to introduce prospective Cadets to the opportunity of serving as an Army Officer. The objectives of Basic Camp is to develop Cadet leadership abilities and to train Cadets using individual and junior leader tasks which develop and reinforce the Warrior Ethos and Army Values. Basic Camp provides the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in ROTC, and ultimately, as an Army Officer. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!
Basic Camp’s primary audience is the Lateral Entry Cadet who decides to explore ROTC their sophomore year, but who need to learn the skills provided in the first two years of ROTC. Students who complete Basic Camp may “contract to commission,” enter the ROTC Advanced Course (junior and senior years of ROTC), attend Advanced Camp the following summer and, then commission as Second Lieutenants in the Army, Army Reserve or National Guard upon graduation.
As an internship, there is no obligation to contract after completing the training, although most attendees do so. Basic Camp consists of three Cadet Regiments, with three flexible start dates, totaling nearly 1,800 Cadets. But, with almost 500 ROTC Programs nation-wide, slots fill up fast, so don't miss out. If you are wondering what you intend to do after graduation, Basic Camp is an ideal opportunity to see if becoming an Army Officer might be a means of meeting your future goals. It's also a fun, challenging, and well paid summer job!
Students who enroll in the second semester sophomore ROTC courses (MS 259 and MS 269; both 1 Credit Hours) may be considered for a two year scholarship, prior to attending Basic Camp, which would be begin junior year. Campus-Based ROTC Scholarships provide full tuition and fees, $600 a semester for books, and $420 a month for expenses. Scholarship students have priority for Basic Camp slots.
Sophomores who sign up to attend Basic Camp, without enrolling in ROTC courses, are eligible for a $5K Basic Camp Bonus and a $420 monthly allowance, junior and senior year, upon contracting to commission.
Basic Camp is also available to students who will begin a two year graduate degree fall of 2023. The same scholarship or bonus incentives, described above, are available for graduate students.
Dates for the three Basic Camp Regiments will be opening soon. If you would like more information on how to secure a spot to Basic Camp, ROTC Scholarships or the Basic Camp Bonus, e-mail arblumen@nmu.edu.
