Brian translates childhood observations into narrative artwork. Stories swapped at the kitchen table and surreal memories of his father placing a fishing boat into the living room for winter storage are the basis of personal myths in his black and white woodcut prints.
This exhibition considers our relationship to design using objects from the permanent collection. The exhibition features work by Alvar Aalto, Nuttapong Charoenkitivarakorn, Darryl Curran, Ray and Charles Eames, Kaj Franck, Frank Gehry, Alexander Girard, Andy Gregg, Takenobu Igarashi, Max Krimmel, Thomas Lamb, Gunnel Nyman, Glenn Polinsky, F.A.
True Likeness features contemporary portraits from diverse makers in various media, including video, photography, painting, collage, installation, sculpture, printmaking, and drawing. Artists’ identities and those presented through their works provide a snapshot of who we are as a country. Artists include Endia Beal, Antonius-Tín Bui, Sam Doyle, Amir H. Fallah, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Juan R.
As part of the design process for Harden Hall an open house will be held with the Architectural Design Team to review furniture options associated with the renovation. All interested faculty, staff and students are encouraged to stop by and check out various furniture options and provide feedback on what they would like to see in the renovated Harden Hall.
The Faculty Buzz Sessions at NMU are a platform for faculty to quickly present their research in three slides or five minutes. Everyone is welcome to attend this biannual, interdisciplinary research event. We look forward to seeing faculty, students, staff, community members as well as researchers and learners!
On Saturday, September 16, the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center will be opening a landmark exhibition on the 1820 expedition of Lewis Cass on the Great Lakes. The exhibition, “Claiming Michigan: the 1820 Expedition of Lewis Cass,” will feature dozens of images, excerpts from journals, detailed narrative information and large format maps.
Bill Thelen will lead BINGO!, a collaborative drawing workshop utilizing bingo markers as the drawing media. Thelen will guide participants with a series of prompts. The workshop will culminate in a collaborative art installation. No experience is required to participate. Supplies will be provided.
