NMU Percussion Ensemble Concert
The NMU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Professor James A. Strain, will present its annual winter semester concert on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., in Reynolds Recital Hall. The concert will be performed on standard percussion instruments such as drums, cymbals, gongs, marimbas, xylophones, bells, vibraphones, chimes and timpani, with one piece using only clapped hands! The music will include a variety of musical styles, such as contemporary chamber music, Japanese Taiko, and African drumming, as well as classical transcriptions of music from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and Rossini’s Overture to “Italian in Algiers.” In addition, several students will perform short percussion solos. There is no admission charge, and the concert will be live-streamed by the NMU School of Music, Theater, and Dance Broadcasting Network (subscription required), which can be found at https://smtdbroadcasting.nmu.edu.
