NMU Theatre and Dance Faculty-Led Study Abroad

The NMU Department of Theatre is Dance is going bi-coastal! Traveling to both New York and London for a theater, dance, and entertainment-focused experience is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the world of performing and entertainment arts. TH496 Theatre and Dance Study Abroad, 2 cr. (Winter Semester tuition eligible)

Travel Dates: May 7-18, 2024

(New York: May 7-11, London: May 11-18)

Here's a breakdown of what you might expect during your trip:

  1. Musicals, Plays, and Ballets:
    • New York: Broadway is the pinnacle of musical theater, and you'll have the chance to see some of the best shows in the world. From classic revivals to cutting-edge new productions, Broadway has something for everyone.
    • London: The West End is London's equivalent of Broadway, offering a diverse array of musicals and plays. You may get the chance to see some iconic productions or discover new and innovative performances.
  2. Immersive Theatre:
    • Both cities are known for their immersive theater experiences. These can range from site-specific performances to interactive plays and entertainment experiences that break down the traditional barriers between the audience and performers.
  3. Behind the Scenes:
    • You will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes of a theater production, learning about the technical aspects, set design, and costume creation. This can provide valuable insights into the production process.
  4. Workshops:
    • Participating in workshops with professionals in the field will be a highlight of your trip. These sessions may cover acting techniques, dance, tech/design or other aspects of theater and dance.
  5. Tours:
    • Guided tours of famous theaters in both cities can be a fascinating experience. Learning about the history of these iconic venues and their significance in the world of performing arts adds depth to your understanding.
  6. Exploring Each City:
    • Take advantage of your free time to explore the cultural and historical landmarks of New York and London. These cities are rich in art, history, and diverse culinary experiences.
  7. Networking:
    • Engage with professionals in the industry and fellow students. Networking can open doors to future opportunities and provide valuable insights into the world of theater and dance.
