This workshop is designed for faculty, graduate students, and staff who want to know more about how copyright shapes teaching and research, and how open licenses, such as those provided by Creative Commons, can support the sharing of ideas and information.
Emera Bridger Wilson (Librarian) and Tom Gillespie (Senior Instructional Technologist) will introduce the benefits and limitations of all rights reserved copyright, how open licensing works within copyright, and facilitate activities to teach participants how to select the correct Creative Commons licenses for their teaching and research.
This event is made possible through a SISU Innovation Funding.

Open educational resources are not limited to text and images. In this session, we will explore options for creating multimedia and interactive practice exercises that can also be shared as OER. We will look at examples including interactive videos, drag and drop sorting exercises, branching scenarios, and more. We have tools to create these exercises without the need for coding. Participants should bring their laptop computers.
This event is made possible through SISU Innovation Funding.
In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of LibreTexts, including how to search the library and adopt materials. Participants will also have the opportunity to curate, customize, create, and edit materials specific to their courses. No prior experience is necessary. Participants should bring their laptop computers.
LibreTexts is the largest centralized open education project and platform online. LibreTexts is adaptable and user-friendly for educators, while being easily accessible and interactive for students. On this platform, you can adopt, customize, and share textbooks, adaptive homework, and ancillary materials for a variety of subjects (chemistry, biology, business, humanities, K-12 education, math, statistics, social sciences, etc.).
Deciphering Monoterpene Indole and Oxindole Alkaloids Biosynthesis In Mitragyna Species
Presented via Zoom by Dr. Satya Swathi Nadakuduti
Dr. Satya Swathi Nadakuduti is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida. Dr. Nadakuduti received her Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology from Michigan State University.
Her lab is interested in studying plants' specialized metabolism to understand the chemical diversity and identify compounds that have pharmaceutical value, and their potential for health benefits and applications in agriculture. Her research program integrates multi-disciplinary approaches such as biochemistry, genomics, gene discovery, and functional characterization to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the biosynthesis of these compounds. Her group is also interested in targeted genome modifications using gene-editing technology such as CRISPR/Cas9 for agriculture crop improvement, as a functional genomics tool and to understand genome-wide off-target effects caused by gene-editing reagents. Her group is interested in micropropagation and implementing gene editing in medicinally relevant plant species.
