Kelsey Ronan will present and discuss her debut novel, Chevy in the Hole, which was named a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice and a 2023 Michigan Notable Book. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Free event.
Looking beyond solemn statements and well-meant monuments, Professor Port will discuss the ways in which the Holocaust shaped German responses to modern-day genocides in other countries after 1945. He will also discuss how these foreign atrocities recast Germany’s understanding of its own horrific history. In addition to Port's remarks, three Northern Michigan University professors with expertise on this topic will serve as discussants: Robbie Goodrich (History), Petra Hendrickson (Political Science & Public Administration), and Anna Zimmer (Languages, Literatures, and International Studies).
