What were your favorite moments as an undergrad at NMU?

I loved being able to be uniquely myself with no fear that someone would reject me for being me. I found this safety especially in this department. We are all a little quirky and that makes it such a welcoming space.

What will you miss most about being an NMU student?

I will miss the community that I have been blessed to be a part of and the incredible resources of the libraries and professors.

What were your favorite moments as a Languages, Literatures & International Studies program student?

When I was hired as an ASL tutor, I did not expect to meet some of my closest friends in our tucked-away office in the basement in Harden. Those semesters were some of the most fun I had. Whenever there were no students in the LRC, we could be heard chatting and laughing up a storm. I am so thankful for those memories.

What was your favorite course(s) in your program?

I really enjoyed all my in-person ASL courses (DFST 101 & DFST 102) as well as ASL: Artistic Expressions. These courses challenged my mental flexibility and helped me to improve both my conversational and storytelling abilities.

If you met an incoming student, what advice would you give them?

If you have even an inkling that there is something you might want to try, go for it! Testing your boundaries and taking a step into the unknown is the only way you will discover both what you are capable of, but also what you truly love and enjoy doing.
