Fritz J. Erickson
President of Northern Michigan University from 2014-2021
Biography:
Fritz Erickson grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and pursued an education degree at Western Michigan University before moving out to Utah to teach in rural school districts. He moved to Colorado, where he continued to teach and earned his master’s degree, eventually becoming an adviser for school districts on how best to implement technology into their curriculum. After completing his doctorate, he began a career in higher education, teaching at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Before assuming the presidency at NMU, he worked in higher education administration at various institutions across the country—from Michigan Tech to Eastern Washington to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Since becoming president of Northern, he has overseen the development of new academic programs (like Medicinal Plant Chemistry and Cybersecurity) as well as the development of NMU’s physical campus in the new public/private dorms.
