About the College of Technology and Occupational Sciences

Welcome to NMU’s College of Technology and Occupational Sciences. We offer a full complement of programs and courses of study, ranging from diploma and certificate programs to associate and baccalaureate degrees. Many of our programs are designed to “ladder,” allowing those students who study one and two-year programs to graduate and enter the workforce or step into a four-year baccalaureate degree without missing a beat.

We work closely with industry experts and businesses to provide our students with hands-on education, networking opportunities, and internships. Our graduates have a high rate of success and experience employment across the nation.

Experience Learning

Many of your classes will be in the newly renovated Jacobetti Complex. The Jake is the definition of “hands-on” learning; with more than 20 specialized state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, many of which are authentic recreations of real-world businesses and shops, students have access to the most up-to-date technology with auto service bays, HVAC/R equipment, industrial maintenance machinery, construction materials, hydroponic systems, cosmetology stations, and professional kitchens.

What You'll Do at NMU

Learn to perform computer diagnostics on automobiles. With your construction classmates, choose from a variety of community projects to perform feasibility studies or plan and build a small project from start to finish. Master the latest hairstyles with 1,500 hours of supervised experience in our on-campus salon. Or prepare a four-course internationally themed meal for an elegant on-campus restaurant serving the public. Intern at a historic hotel or innovative construction company from your hometown or across the nation. The options are endless!
