AD 411B Human Centered Design: Senior Design Studio 4 cr.

This studio is a culmination of knowledge skills and process acquired through previous courses. Individuals will define a self-generated research project that address contemporary cultural issues. Preparation of a professional portfolio of work and resume will also be required.

AD 412A Digital Cinema: Production 4 cr.

Continued development of digital video and audio production skills and knowledge emphasizing development, production, and realization of a group practicum project; professional portfolio and statement development. 

AD 412B Digital Cinema: Editing 4 cr.

Continued development of digital video and audio production and post-production skills and knowledge emphasizing editing techniques; editing for impact, mood story; professional portfolio and statement development. 

AD 417A Photography: Contemporary Practices 4 cr.

Design and implementation of individual advanced projects while exploring contemporary theoretical and critical photographic concepts.

AD 417B Photography: Professional Practices 4 cr.

Design and implementation of individual advanced projects while gaining knowledge of professional practices within the photographic field.

AD 418A Graphic Design: Interactivity Seminar 4 cr.
  • Offered: Fall and Winter, even numbered years
  • Prerequisites: AD 303 or concurrent enrollment, AD 318A or AD 318B, or instructor's permission.

Students will learn to apply research, problem solving, and the user’s experience to interactivity. This course’s focus is on app/software interfaces and other media, wayfinding and the conceptual development of interaction and design.

AD 418B Graphic Design: Branding Seminar 4 cr.
  • Offered: Fall and Winter, odd numbered years
  • Prerequisites: AD 303 or concurrent enrollment, AD 318A or AD 318B, or instructor permission.

Advanced research and visual problem solving. Emphasis is placed on the creation and application of large-scale branding and identity systems.

AD 419A Illustration: Advanced Studio I 4 cr.

Development of conceptual and problem-solving abilities within the framework of varied commercial situations, while encouraging personal artistic voice. Ideation, research, and the professional practice of an illustrator are emphasized.  

AD 419B Illustration: Advanced Studio II 4 cr.

  • Prerequisites: AD 303 or concurrent enrollment, AD 319A or AD 319B, or instructor's permission.

Further exploration of conceptual and problem-solving abilities within the framework of varied commercial situations, while encouraging personal artistic voice. Ideation, research, and the professional practice of an illustrator are emphasized.

AD 420A Drawing/Painting: Seminar I 4 cr.

Students will plan, research, and execute self-driven projects. The content of these projects will follow consistent and coherent themes determined by the student. Content will be supported by readings, discussions, critiques, and supported exposure to professional opportunities in the field.

AD 420B Drawing/Painting: Seminar II 4 cr.

  • Prerequisites: AD 303 or concurrent enrollment, AD 320A or 320B, or instructor’s permission.

Students will plan, research, and execute self-driven projects. The content of these projects will follow consistent and coherent themes determined by the student, which may also be related to their Senior Capstone Project. Course content will be supported by readings discussion and supported opportunities for professional development in the field.

AD 422A Ceramics Seminar: Design Practices 4 cr.

  • Prerequisites: AD 303 or concurrent enrollment, AD 322A or AD 322B, or instructor permission.

Production of a body of work that supports the student’s personal concern for form supported by ideological and theoretical sources. Individual solutions for construction and finishing are stressed with a focus on current trends and issues in ceramics.

AD 422B Ceramics Seminar: Professional Practices 4 cr.

Continuation of the study of the ceramic process to develop a body of work representing a personal approach supported by ideological and theoretical sources. Students will develop documents, objects and images as part of a professional portfolio to support BFA/BA thesis research

AD 423A Metalsmithing/Sculpture: Seminar 4 cr.

Production of a group of artwork focusing on multi-media assemblage, found objects and combined technologies.

AD 423B Foundry Bronze and Aluminum Casting 4 cr.
  • Offered: Winter, even numbered years
  • Prerequisites: AD 303 or concurrent enrollment, AD 323A or AD 323B, or instructor permission.

Development of skills and concepts in the production of sculpture using the techniques of foundry style investment bronze and aluminum casting. Concentration is focused upon learning various methods of casting, mold preparation, venting, gating and investing for gravity pour procedures. Students will also learn and practice the operation of the foundry in the production of their assignments.

AD 424A Alternative Materials in Applied Design 4 cr.

This course is a continuation of and expansion upon the skills and techniques covered in previous woodworking courses, while further developing personal creativity and design sensibilities. Emphasis is placed on the methods of designing and building functional objects with non-traditional construction materials including metal, cement, fabric, foam, paper and plastic.

AD 424B Woodworking: Seating and Complex Joinery 4 cr.

Continued development of a professional portfolio. Emphasis is placed on the application of ideology and theory while maintaining a close attention to design, process, and concept of chair construction.

AD 434A Computer Art: Advanced Studio 4 cr.

  • Prerequisites: AD 303 or concurrent enrollment, AD 334A or AD 334B, or instructor permission.

Development of concepts and methods for computer art with a focus on portfolio development. Topics may include advanced animation, experimental animation, scripting, game development, motion capture, digital sculpting, and advanced rendering with emphasis on creative exploration.

AD 434B Computer Art: Production Practices 4 cr.

Development of concepts and methods for computer art with a focus on portfolio development. Topics may include advanced animation, scripting, game development, motion capture, digital sculpting, and advanced rendering with emphasis on professional production practices.

  • Prerequisites: Junior standing and department head permission. Open only to those students who, through transfer or departmental evaluation, do not have enough credits for graduation from a particular area of studio concentration.

AD 485 Foundations: Theories and Practices 4 cr.

Utilizing a range of analytical and practical frameworks this course includes an intensive examination of the methods, production, values, philosophies and theories surrounding art and design. 

AD 488 Social Media Design Management 4 cr.

  • Prerequisites: Senior Standing, AD 218, AD 285, PR 330, and MKT 432 or MKT 470.

Advanced research and visual problem-solving. Emphasis is placed on the creation and application and coordination of branding and identity systems for social media platforms.
