Clinical assistants are members of the health care delivery team. They perform a variety of duties under the supervision of a laboratory scientist, nurse or other medical personnel. Duties may included specimen procurement and sample processing, basic laboratory testing, patient processing, basic technical nursing procedures and secretarial work. This one-year program includes an introduction to fundamental laboratory, office and nursing skills. After the second semester, students train in clinical sites within the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Upon completion of the program or selected courses of the program, students become eligible for national phlebotomy certification. Upon completion of this NAACLS approved program graduates are eligible for employment in a variety of health care settings.
