International Business Minor

The international business minor at Northern Michigan University is designed to enable students to create a minor course of study focusing on international business. This minor is suitable for anyone who is entering a business environment with a degree in any field other than business or to compliment a business major. In addition, this minor may help make non-business majors more competitive in the job search process and compliment a variety majors.

Business Foundations Minor (MBA Prep)

Minor program designed to prepare students interested in pursuing an MBA graduate degree. Courses in program are prerequisites for admission. Not intended for business majors.

Prerequisites - Math competency MA 100 or higher for completion of MA 109 and ACT 230; MA 113 for ACT 240; ACT 240 for FIN 351.

Cyber Defense Certificate

These courses provide a strong foundation of cyber defense skills. This certificate is a pathway for students to develop a skillset in the area of cybersecurity/information assurance.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, but no minimum HS GPA or test score.

Food, Environment and Society Minor

The Food, Environment, & Society (FES) minor is centered on the concept of sustainability. Focus is directed towards studying food and the environment from an interdisciplinary perspective. The minor is intended for students interested in the complexities of growing, processing, distributing, assessing, and consuming food. The program consists of courses analyzing the current food system across a range of disciplines, identifying some of its unsustainable practices and offering alternatives. Includes instruction in anthropology, environmental science, geography, health and nutrition, and sociology.

Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the FES program courses to earn this minor.

Hospitality and Tourism Management Certificate (currently not accepting students)

Online through NMU Global Campus Only

The Hospitality and Tourism Management online certificate is for career-minded individuals who are seeking to develop their managerial skills and abilities in the hospitality and tourism industries while maintaining a flexible work schedule in the hospitality and tourism setting. Students enrolled will gain an increased knowledge and understanding of both the hospitality and tourism industries by recognizing the responsibilities for a variety of management positions. Students will also be able to apply their understanding of financial and accounting concepts in an assortment of settings by demonstrating effective critical and analytical skills in their decision-making. This certificate also ladders into the on campus Hospitality Management (two-year program) or the Hospitality and Tourism Management (four-year program) without loss of credits. Admissions requirements to the Hospitality and Tourism Management online certificate are a high school diploma or equivalent and a math placement score of MA 090 or higher, “C” or higher in OC 080, or prior college level math credit. Students completing this certificate must achieve a minimum grade of “C” for each required course.
