Communications in Loss Prevention

LPM 190 Communications in Loss Prevention 4 cr.

An introduction to all aspects of loss prevention communications, which includes an emphasis on the oral and written communication skills necessary to build strong working relationships within the corporate environment.

Notes: Note: Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in order for this course to count in the loss prevention major.

Principles of Asset Protection

LPM 101 Principles of Asset Protection 4 cr. This course serves as an introduction to the loss prevention degree program. As an overview of the field of retail loss prevention, it addresses basic theories and concepts, key terms and definitions and current critical issues. It also deals with the organizational fundamentals of loss prevention, including goals, missions, objectives, functions, operations and roles. Notes: Students must earn a minimum grade of "C" in order for this course to count in the loss prevention major.

Graduation Assessment for Language Majors

LG 499 Graduation Assessment for Language Majors 0 cr.

Graduating students meet with faculty in November (for fall graduates) or March (for winter or summer graduates) to show their skills in the language of their major. Include reading, writing, conversation and culture-related skills.

Methods and Materials in Teaching Language Education

LG 350 Methods and Materials in Teaching Language Education 4 cr.

This course introduces students to the theory and practice of teaching languages in public schools.

Notes: May not be applied toward a non-teaching major or minor in modern languages. May be applied to a secondary education minor in French, German or Spanish if required.

World Studies through Literature in Translation

LG 317Z World Studies through Literature in Translation 4 cr.

An examination of the art, culture, language, history and humanity of different areas of the world through their literature. At least two-thirds of the texts are translations into English of works originally written in other languages.

Overview of Linguistics for Language Educators

LG 250 Overview of Linguistics for Language Educators 2 cr.

A general overview of linguistics. Topics include phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, dialectology, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, and linguistic typology, as well as pertinent examples taken mostly from English, French, German, and Spanish. This course meets Michigan and national standards for language education students.

Notes:

FR/GR/SN 202 have prerequisites of 101, 102 and 201, which can be waived due to high school or other experience.
