Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting

ACT 240 Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course introduces students to the theory, rationale, objectives, and procedures relative to managerial accounting with an examination of current accounting approaches and processes. The aim is to develop an initial, realistic understanding of managerial accounting, particularly from the viewpoints of developers and users of pertinent information.

Fundamentals of Financial Accounting

ACT 230 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

ACT 230 is designed to introduce financial accounting. This course will cover the steps of the accounting cycle and related basic financial statements, discuss accounting for assets, liabilities, and owner’s equity, explore processes for mitigating fraud through internal controls, and review various other topics intended to further your knowledge within the realm of financial accounting.

Practical Accounting Procedures

ACT 201 Practical Accounting Procedures 4 cr.

Study of basic principles and procedures in clerical, technical or secretarial fields. This course will emphasize recording business transactions and completing the accounting cycle, using special journals, and preparing financial statements, worksheets, payroll and other records.

Notes:

Not acceptable as an elective for students who have completed ACT 230 and ACT 240.

The Good Life: Anishinaabemowin and Creative Cultural Expression

NAS 301 The Good Life: Anishinaabemowin and Creative Cultural Expression 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course builds on the grammar, linguistic mechanics, vocabulary and cultural knowledge introduced in NAS 101. Where possible, the course will use ​Anishinaabemowin ​replacement terminology for linguistic concepts. This course will look at more advanced concepts of culture such as ancestral governance, narrative, health systems, decolonization and renewal of ancestral culture in contemporary contexts.

Beautiful Walks on Turtle Island: Seasonal Experience Anishinaabe Language

NAS 207 Beautiful Walks on Turtle Island: Seasonal Experience Anishinaabe Language 4 cr.

The skills necessary for speaking Anishinaabe through experiential opportunities, cultural outdoor activities as well as classroom activity and group work during fall, winter or spring experiences that emphasize indigenous traditional knowledge.

Notes:

May be repeated once for each season. 207a – fall, 207b – winter, 207c –spring.

Voice of the Thunderbird Nation: Anishinaabe Language, Culture and Community II

NAS 102 Voice of the Thunderbird Nation: Anishinaabe Language, Culture and Community II 4 cr.

An in-depth study of Anishinaabemowin language. This course is a continuation of materials introduced in NAS 101. Students will focus on higher-level use of the language and will apply it in situations related to contemporary Anishinaabe cultural issues and community structures.

Spark of the Three Fires: Anishinaabe Language, Culture and Community I

NAS 101 Spark of the Three Fires: Anishinaabe Language, Culture and Community I 4 cr.

An introduction to Anishinaabemowin language including grammar, vocabulary, idioms and syllabics. Students will learn to read, write and speak basic Anishinaabemowin. This course also promotes the preservation of Anishinaabe culture by examining various facets of Anishinaabe everyday life and contemporary issues.

Global Engagement

IP 290 Global Engagement 2 cr.

An opportunity to participate in and report on campus and community events of an international nature, keep track of and report on current events and issues from around the world, learn about various world countries, and network with classmates and others. 

Notes:

This course can be repeated for credit.
