A comprehensive review of local, Michigan and federal laws governing the growth, processing, distribution, possession and sale of the cannabis plant and its extracts and the establishment and operation of cannabis related businesses.

Presentation Design for Non-Designers

AD 204 Presentation Design for Non-Designers 3 cr.

Presentations are essential for students working in any field, and the visual appearance of those presentations is a crucial part of the engagement. Learn how to create effective presentations, developing compelling visual designs, and providing information in a well-organized format. Students will learn practical photography and video usage, along with the essential tools in presentation software. Students will create informational graphics to convey complex information quickly.

Visual Literacy in Global Culture

AD 181 Visual Literacy in Global Culture 4 cr.

An introduction to visual literacy, which is the ability to read visual images, to verbally describe them, and to understand their intended and implied meanings. A basic terminology for visual literacy will be studied in order to examine images from fine arts, advertisements, news, movies, video games, etc.

Theory of Sport

PE 450 Theory of Sport 3 cr.  (3-0-0)

This course is designed to help students develop their knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of their chosen sport. The student will research the past and present day era of the game through coaching philosophy and systems. The principles of the sport from offense, defense, special teams (plays), strategy, individual skills, recruiting, rules, and regulations will be researched and analyzed.

Advanced Principles of Athletic Coaching

PE 440 Advanced Principles of Athletic Coaching 3 cr.  (3-0-0)

This course is designed to facilitate the understanding and development of advanced principles in the field of athletic coaching. Particular emphasis in this course will be placed on the development of effective communication skills, management of team dynamics and athlete-centered coaching. These content areas will be examined through a transformational lens to encourage future leaders in sport to use the athletic platform to enhance the participants’ lives in sport and beyond.

Notes: This course cannot be repeated for credit.

Medical Aspects of Coaching

PE 345 Medical Aspects of Coaching 3 cr.  (2-0-2)

This course is designed to help future coaches understand their role as a member of the athletic and sports medicine health care team. Students will learn how to develop and execute emergency action plans and apply basic first aid and mobilization techniques to a variety of common sport related injuries. This course will focus on the injuries related to the musculoskeletal system, the head & spine, as well as internal organs. Students will also learn current standard practice related to respiratory distress, and environmental conditions as they may affect safe athletic performance. In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn basic common taping applications used with sport injury.
