Athletic Healthcare Administration

ATR 410 Athletic Healthcare Administration 2 cr.

Athletic trainers function within the context of a complex healthcare system. Students will demonstrate an understanding of risk management, legal considerations, governmental regulation, healthcare delivery mechanisms, insurance, reimbursement, documentation, patient privacy, human resources, and facility management.

Advanced Integrated Skills

ELI 054 Advanced Integrated Skills 4 cr.

Students will demonstrate the ability to interact with classmates and native speakers, and work in a classroom setting on various themed projects while further developing their language skills in “real-life” situations. These projects will reflect student academic interests.

Advanced Writing and Grammar

ELI 053 Advanced Writing and Grammar 7 cr.

In this advanced writing course, students will develop advanced level competence in writing various types of academic papers. Students will be provided with the necessary instruction to write 3-4 page academic essays in APA format that are well supported and correctly cite multiple sources, including visual elements. The course will also help students increase their grammatical accuracy which they will be expected to demonstrate through meaning in their own academic writing. In addition, students in this course will engage in the steps of the writing process. The course will prepare students for university level writing requirements such as exam essays by requiring timed writing activities on a bi-weekly basis to improve writing fluency. Students will collaborate with classmates to complete a variety of assignment types. Finally, students will improve their test-taking skills in order to successfully improve their scores on standardized language tests (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS)

Advanced Reading and Vocabulary

ELI 052 Advanced Reading and Vocabulary 7 cr.

This course will provide students with the necessary instruction to increase reading fluency and comprehension of advanced level academic texts. In addition, in this course, students will engage with, understand and respond to authentic texts in a more analytical and thoughtful way. Students will practice and engage in a variety of reading strategies to aid comprehension and understanding of advanced texts. By reading an independent novel, students will gain experience identifying a variety of literary features. Students will conduct their own guided research in preparation for a final written project. Students will be expected to demonstrate an advanced level understanding of vocabulary and meaning and will collaborate with classmates to complete a variety of assignment types. Finally, students will improve their test-taking skills in order to successfully improve their scores on standardized language tests (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS).

Advanced Speaking and Listening

ELI 051 Advanced Speaking and Listening 7 cr.

In this course, students will further refine their listening and speaking skills necessary for academic success and for appropriate participation in social communication in an English-speaking community. This course will provide students with daily opportunities to engage in small group and class discussion on academic topics. Instructions will focus primarily on the development of fluency in the student’s spoken communication, but will emphasize accuracy in production. Students will improve their note-taking skills by learning and practicing new strategies for listening to and comprehending academic lectures on various topics. In addition, students will prepare and deliver formal academic speeches/presentations throughout the course. They will collaborate with classmates to complete a variety of assignments. Finally, students will improve their test-taking skills in order to successfully improve their scores on standardized language tests (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS).
