Effective Communication in the Workplace

LDR 100 Effective Communication in the Workplace 4 cr.

This course develops students' verbal and nonverbal workplace communication abilities. Students will learn about and practice many forms of workplace communication both oral and written. Student will learn to communicate clearly and efficiently while doing so in way that motivates others.

Medicinal Plant Chemistry II

CH 421 Medicinal Plant Chemistry II 5 cr.  (3-0-6)

Medicinal properties of plant secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, terpenoids and flavonoids. In the laboratory students will extract medicinal compounds from plants, analyze them using various instrumental and chemical methods in order to complete their proposed project and present it to their peers.

Medicinal Plant Chemistry I

CH 420 Medicinal Plant Chemistry I 5 cr.  (3-0-6)

Structure and chemical properties of plant secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, terpenoids and flavonoids. Students will plan their research projects and will begin cultivation of the plants they will use. They will also learn about methods of extraction, analysis of plant secondary metabolites and principles of good laboratory practice (glp).

Medicinal Plant Chemistry Seminar III

CH 389 Medicinal Plant Chemistry Seminar III 1 cr.  (1-0-0)

Seminar course involving discussion of articles related to medicinal plant chemistry and presentations by peers and invited guests. Students will also prepare and present a proposal for the project they plan to do in CH 420 and CH 421 Medicinal Plant Chemistry I and II.

Clinical Observation in Athletic Training II

ATR 311 Clinical Observation in Athletic Training II 1 cr.  (0-0-2)

This course is intended and required for students wishing to pursue the Master’s in Athletic Training program at NMU. This course will allow students to be placed into clinical observation experiences at the various on-campus athletic training facilities.

Emergency Health Care

HL 125 Emergency Health Care 3 cr.  (2-0-2)

Provides students with instruction that will enable AHA Certification in CPR for the Health Care Provider. This includes certification in adult, child and infant CPR (1 person/2 person), rescue breathing, obstructed airway care, use of protective mask and bag valve and AED application. Instruction also in spine boarding, splinting, wound care, crutch use, primary survey, vital sign assessment, and OSHA compliance.

HRM in Public and Nonprofit Organizations

PS 428 HRM in Public and Nonprofit Organizations 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course examines human resource management in public and nonprofit organizations. The course focuses on issues and challenges facing today’s leaders, managers, and human resource professionals in these two sectors. Topics covered include but are not limited to the recruitment, selection, motivation, training, and retention of staff, equal employment opportunity, and diversity in public and non-profit organizations. Effective policies and best practices will be emphasized.
