Public Relations & Communications student from Chanhassen, MN
Meet Graham McPhee, a Public Relations and Communications student from Chanhassen, MN. Graham plans to graduate in 2028.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
I left a bigger school to be more outdoors and enjoy the elements. I love winter, so being able to enjoy loads of snow for sports has always been a love and a hobby of mine.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I really loved the social media marketing aspect of Public Relations, as well as showcasing my talent to people online. I chose communications as a minor because I am great at talking and communicating with peers, leaders, and coworkers.
What's an example of a cool, interesting or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major?
I have done mock marketing projects for big companies such as Patagonia.
What are you involved in on and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
I’m involved in a lot of marketing projects for St Vincent De Paul Thrift and Food Pantry. We give back to the community by making food affordable and selling clothes below market value! I also work at the NMU golf course, which is in the woods and fun to play with friends.
What does being a Wildcat mean to you?
Being a wildcat means embracing the community and culture around the Upper Peninsula. It also means being a role model to students coming in, along with the other students around you.
How did you find your sense of belonging at NMU?
I chose to participate in dorm games like Dead River Falls and make connections with people early on when I transferred here from a bigger school!
What would you tell someone who is considering coming to NMU?
If you love to be in the outdoors and elements, along with having a great community around you, this is the place to succeed.
