Jailyn Johnson

Acting major from Dallas, Texas

Meet Jailyn Johnson, an Acting major from Dallas, Texas. Jailyn plans to graduate in 2029.

I was lucky enough to be recruited by the acting program. And when I took a look at all of my options, Northern was the only school that had the community and support I was looking for during my educational journey.

I decided to focus on acting because I have been an actress and model since I was 5. The theatre has always been a part of my life and my happy place!

During the 2026 Winter semester, I had the privilege of taking Stage Combat! Learning the ins and outs of displaying physical conflict on stage safely was a blast! And this fall, I get to use a lot of that knowledge for the play I am in (POTUS by Selina Fillinger) that has some cool cahotic conflict.

I found my sense of belonging the moment I walked into the Forest Roberts Theatre and met everyone in our program. I was filled with excitement for opportunity, and being able to share that feeling with hundreds of people in one room is magical.

I would say if you think you like it, come tour our campus and meet our people, and you'll love it.

The best part of my experience here has been the independence you are able to find here, but also knowing you always have the support system mentally and physically here to help you when you are in need is amazing.

Absolutely! I have learned so much about my craft and about myself, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. And to think this is only my second year, I can't wait to see what the upcoming years will bring.

Jimmy "James" Ludwig has been especially impactful because he was the one who recruited me and offered me a seat back in Texas. He has continued to push and believe in me throughout this process.

I currently work at the Center for Native American Studies as a student office and media assistant on campus. I also serve as the president of the Lone Star Mentorship Program. The program focuses on bringing students who travel from far away to attend NMU together to find community. The most rewarding part of this experience has been getting involved in all the events we throw and seeing that my marketing is helping spread the word so we get a better turnout! And bringing our far-away students together and seeing them create friend groups outside of the Lone Star meetings.

Being a Wildcat to me means throwing yourself out there. Find your community and try new things! But also staying successful academically and making the most of your education.
