Rachel Raniszewski

Public Relations & Business Foundations student from Traverse City, MI

Meet Rachel Raniszewski, a Public Relations and Business Foundations student from Traverse City, MI. Rachel plans to graduate in May of 2026.

I have never lived more than 20 minutes away from one of the Great Lakes, and NMU has been my dream school since my sophomore year of high school because of the small class sizes, the atmosphere of Marquette, and all of the different programs and opportunities NMU has to offer!

I knew that I wanted to start a business where I could work with others, using my creativity, networking, and strategizing skills to bring a client's idea to life. After talking to my academic advisor and my peers in public relations, I knew PR and Business Foundations would be good fits to help me achieve my career goals.

Through being a member of NMU's chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), I was able to go to Anaheim, CA, to attend the annual ICON conference to meet an impressive variety of public relations professionals as well as to expand on my knowledge of the industry.

I am a current member of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), a player on the NMU Women's Club Volleyball team, and a team member of the food truck development project here in Marquette. Each experience has been equally rewarding. In PRSSA, I can focus on developing my professional career skills and self. In club volleyball, I can prioritize staying active with a busy school schedule doing something I love, and building genuine relationships with the other girls on the team. Being a part of the development team for a food truck village in Marquette has been a one-of-a-kind experience because I am working with city officials, community members, and business owners and getting real-world experience while having the support and materials I need at my fingertips.

To me, being a Wildcat means being bigger than yourself, being someone's support system, and being your authentic self!

Joining clubs, getting involved with both school and community events, and getting outside!

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there everyone is in a similar situation trying to meet new people, so don't be scared! Get involved with clubs and extracurriculars as soon as possible. It will give you something to look forward to throughout the week and help you make new friends!

It has been nothing but exciting, and I am looking forward to the opportunities that will come my way during my senior year and into my post-grad career!
