The Northern Michigan University English department head and professor, Lynn Domina, has a new episode of her webinar "Let's Talk About Books at NMU" scheduled for Mar. 18th at 1pm. 
This webinar will introduce Melissa Homestead's book "The Wonderful Things: The Creative Partnership of Willa Cather and Edith Lewis". Homestead is Professor of English and Program Faculty in Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In the presentation, Homestead offers a refreshing take on lesbian life in early twentieth-century America. She skillfully reconstructs Cather and Lewis's life together, from their time in New York City to their travels in the American Southwest.

The Northern Michigan University English department head and professor, Lynn Domina, has a new episode of her webinar "Let's Talk About Books at NMU" scheduled for Feb. 18th at 1pm.

This webinar will introduce Dr. Gail Okawa's 18-year book project "Remembering Our Grandfathers' Exile: US Imprisonment of Hawai`i’s Japanese in World War II". The presentation will share her stories of what happened to hundreds of Japanese immigrants arrested after the Pearl Harbor attack and exiled from the Hawaiian Islands to mainland camps in Texas and New Mexico, as well as Wisconsin, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Montana.

Across the nation, the influence of Critical Race Theory on how history is studied and taught in our educational systems has become hot button political issue. But what exactly is CRT and why has there been so much backlash against it? The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center is hosting a forum to discuss these two questions and other issues concerning CRT featuring four Northern Michigan University faculty members. The CRT Forum will take place on Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Jamrich Hall 1100. Due to Covid-19 regulations, the audience will be limited to 100 members and all attendees will be required to wear KN-95, N-95 or KF-95 masks during the event. The event will also be streaming live on Zoom.

The time to apply for NMU Foundation donor-funded scholarships for the 2022 – 2023 academic year begins on Monday, January 24, 2022 and continues through Monday, February 21, 2022.

Over 300 scholarships are available. Criteria and award amounts do vary from scholarship to scholarship. Learn more at https://nmu.edu/financialaid/donorfundedschol.

When the window to apply opens on January 24, you will apply through your MyNMU. Find the Financial Aid - Donor-Funded Scholarships link under the Student Services tab and proceed from there. New students will follow the same link found under the Admitted to NMU tab in their MyNMU.

If you wish to be considered for need-based awards, you will have to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the Financial Aid Office. Highlighting presentations from the winners of the summer research fellowship, this event is a great opportunity to promote the academic studies and interests of students on campus!
