Join us in NMU's Reynolds Recital Hall on Thursday, April 4 for the opening concert of NMU's Jazz Festival! Both performances (April 4 & April 5) will showcase NMU students, faculty, and guest clinicians. Learn more about NMU's Jazz Fest here.

This year's festival will feature jazz pianist and composer Ellen Rowe, who is currently the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan. On Wednesday, March 27, the NMU Department of Music will hold its annual Music Performance Scholarship Competition. Several of NMU's music students will be performing a piece of their choice in Reynolds Recital Hall to vie for scholarship awards. 

The competition begins at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Recital Hall and admission is free for everyone.

NMU Orchestra's annual Children's Concert will be performed Wednesday, March 13! This concert will begin an hour earlier than normal at 6:30 p.m. and feature fun and adventurous songs that should be more familiar to our younger audience members.

NMU Department of Music presents the NMU Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble's first concert of the Winter '24 semester! Join us in Reynolds Recital Hall on Monday evening, February 26 for what is sure to be a lovely performance.

As the first concert of our Siril Concert Series for the 2023-2024 school year, NMU Department of Music welcomes you to Reynolds Recital Hall for An Evening At The Opera! Join us on Friday, September 8 at 7:30 p.m. for a concert that will feature guest artists Tara Jamshidian (soprano) and Adam Lowe (tenor) in brilliant vocal performances you're sure to enjoy.

NMU Orchestra is back for their second concert of the semester on Thursday, November 30, but this time with the NMU Jazz Band! Our outstanding NMU Orchestra and NMU Jazz Band perform in Reynolds Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free!

Jazz returns to Reynolds Recital Hall--this time from the NMU Jazz Combos! This concert takes place on Wednesday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m. and is free for everyone.

The NMU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Professor James A. Strain, will present its annual fall semester concert on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 3:00 p.m., in Reynolds Recital Hall. The concert will be performed on standard percussion instruments such as drums, cymbals, gongs, marimbas, xylophones, bells, vibraphones, chimes and timpani. The music will include a variety of musical styles, such as Hip-Hop, World Beat, and classical transcriptions of music from Tchaikovsky’s suite from The Nutcracker and Symphony No. 4, Khachaturian’s Sabre Dance, and William Byrds’ Ave Verum Corpus. There is no admission charge, and the concert will also be live-streamed by the NMU School of Music, Theater, and Dance Broadcasting Network (subscription required), which can be found at https://smtdbroadcasting.nmu.edu.
