Join the Student Equity & Engagement Center in recognizing the achievements of graduating students of color and international students! A brief ceremony will be followed by music, a special menu of cultural foods, and time with the community. All are welcome and tickets are not required. 

If you are a graduate interested in participating in the ceremony and/or receiving a stole, please fill out the registration form via The Hub.

Student Equity & Engagement Center

The Student Equity & Engagement Center invites you to celebrate the achievement of LGBTQ+ graduates! During the ceremony, the LGBTQ+ graduates are given lavender cords to wear for commencement. 

Graduates must register to participate and/or to receive a cord by scanning the QR code available on The Hub, or by emailing seec@nmu.edu. 

All are welcome and tickets are not required.

NMU participates in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) every two years including a topical set of questions on inclusiveness and engagement with diversity.  NMU's Institutional Effectiveness team will present on how this information is used and share findings from the most recent data collection cycle.

From factory work to sex work, activism to organizing; butches and femmes have done it all. As a community, we must learn from our history and we simply cannot do that without delving first into butch/femme identities across the gender spectrum. In this session, we will discuss the coevolution of butch and femme identity and community, the backlash against and erasure of these identities, and the resilience of the communities in the present day.
