In partnership with PEAK26 and UNITED, SHINE will be hosting the annual Campus Sustainability Summit on March 25 - 27 in the Northern Center. These events are free and open to everyone! 

Collaborating with UNITED and PEAK26 provides a dynamic conference experience that features wellness, leadership, sustainability, and equity. We invite every student, employee, and community member to learn, lead, and thrive together. 

This year's theme is Rest: Reclaiming Power Through Resilience & Resistance.

The full program includes keynote speakers, lunch buffets, invited presenters and panelists, interactive workshops, and a variety of learning experiences.

Your input is needed! NMU’s Sustainability Hub for Innovation & Environment (SHINE) is working on a campus-wide sustainability audit to assess the state of sustainability at Northern Michigan University. Responses to this survey will help us to coordinate, communicate, and improve sustainability efforts across campus. 

The survey takes between 2-5 minutes to complete. Your participation is completely voluntary, and all of your responses will be kept confidential. If you would like to be entered to win a $100 cash prize, please enter your email address at the end of the survey (email addresses will be separated from survey responses).

Donate old costume materials, find this year's Halloween costume, and learn how to reduce fabric waste!

On October 1, at 3:00 p.m., as part of Northern Michigan University's 125th Celebration, we will celebrate the collaborative creation of a new campus nursery dedicated to growing native plants for NMU's landscaping. 

Participants are invited to tour the nursery and learn about native plant species and efforts to increase biodiversity on our campus. The nursery is located behind Central Receiving (2073 Sugarloaf Avenue).

Come learn more about the STARS sustainability audit and NMU’s latest "silver" rating. 

The Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) focuses on institution achievements through: academics, engagement, operations, planning and administration, and innovation and leadership.

Since the last audit, NMU included sustainability in the University's strategic plan, added three new academic programs, launched the green fund, installed solar panels, and reduced our carbon footprint and overall resource use. Bring your ideas to help get NMU closer to a gold rating.
