Buzz Sessions at NMU are a platform for faculty and students to quickly present their research in three slides or five minutes. The event also provides a brief overview of the Office of Sponsored Programs and the College of Graduate Studies & Research. This event is designed to allow attendees, including the presenters, to come and go as schedules require. Light refreshments are provided.

Office of Sponsored Programs

The Celebration of Student Scholarship is an annual event at Northern Michigan University that showcases the scholarly work of undergraduate and graduate students across all disciplines. Students present their research, creative writing, artwork, and other projects through research posters and oral presentations, sharing their achievements with the NMU and Marquette communities. The event is free and open to the public.

Students interested in participating are encouraged to work with their faculty advisors to plan their submissions.

Office of Sponsored Programs

Applications for the Excellence in Education (EIE) Research Award are due by February 14th.

These awards support graduate students in conducting scholarly research and creative projects, fostering academic growth and professional development. Recipients will also receive a one-credit tuition stipend to enroll in a course directly related to their research, such as Special Topics, Directed Studies, or Thesis, during one of the summer sessions.

The Scholarly Buzz Sessions at NMU offer an engaging platform for faculty and students to showcase their research through short presentations—just three slides or five minutes each. This biannual event, held in the Fall and Winter semesters, also includes a brief overview of the Office of Sponsored Programs and the College of Graduate Studies and Research. Open to everyone, the sessions celebrate interdisciplinary research and are designed to accommodate busy schedules, allowing attendees and presenters to come and go as needed. The event typically lasts about two hours, with light refreshments provided.

In this session we will cover the following proposal components: Title and Project summary/abstract. We will also address proposal competitiveness within the structure of your proposal and common proposal pitfalls.

Session 3 - The Nuts & Bolts of Grant Applications

In this session we will cover general grantsmanship and the following proposal components: Introduction/overview, Statement of significance, Literature review, Goals/Objectives/Hypotheses, Research design, and Methods.

Session 2 - Utilizing NMU's Electronic Grant Management System to Apply for Grants

October 20, 2021 || The Seaborg Center || 8am

In this session, we will cover how to utilize Northern Michigan University's new Electronic Grant Management system - Cayuse - to apply for both internally and externally sourced grants.
