Applications are closed for the 2024-2025 school year. Selected students will be informed in mid-April.

Eligibility requirements for the NMU Freshman Fellowship Program are listed on our website as follows:

  • A high school senior graduating in 2024 and entering college in fall 2024, or a first-year student
  • Cumulative high school GPA of at least a 2.5
  • You have applied to and been admitted to NMU

Have your NMU Identification Number (IN) and high school GPA available prior to beginning your application. Your NMU Identification Number is mailed to you after you submit your application for admission. This number is required for your submission to be considered.

The last component of the application asks you to write 3 short essays in which you explain why you want to be a Fellow, the area of research in which you would like to be involved; what experiences and skills you could bring to assisting a faculty mentor; and a summary of faculty you want to work with and why. Use the faculty research interests directory to inform your essay. You may want to write this in a word processor first, then copy and paste your response into the provided text box. *Failure to answer all the questions will result in your application not being considered.*

Applications will open on October 2, 2023 and close on February 16, 2024 (all submissions must be in by 5PM Eastern Time).
