Eligibility requirements for the NMU Freshman Fellowship Program are listed on our website as follows:

  • A high school senior graduating in 2022 and entering college in fall 2022, or a first-year student
  • Cumulative high school GPA of at least a 3.5
  • You have applied to and been admitted to NMU

Have your NMU Identification Number (IN) and high school GPA available prior to beginning your application. Your NMU Identification Number is mailed to you after you submit your application for admission. This number is required for your submission to be considered.

The last component of the application asks you to write a 300-word minimum personal statement in which you explain why you want to be a Fellow, the area of research in which you would like to be involved, and what experiences and skills you could bring to assisting a faculty mentor. Use the faculty research interests directory to inform your essay. You may want to write this in a word processor first, then copy and paste your response into the provided text box. *Failure to answer all the questions will result in your application not being considered.*
