Master of Science in Clinical Molecular Diagnostics

The Master of Science in Clinical Molecular Diagnostics is offered to those interested in professional opportunities in clinical molecular diagnostics for healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, forensics, research and academe. Students complete online graduate courses and one week in a molecular diagnostic lab experience on campus. Students will perform research or a method verification and validation which will culminate in a Thesis or Project, respectively. The Thesis or Project will be presented as a seminar at the conclusion of the program.

Students interested in pursuing a career as a Clinical Molecular Laboratory educator may meet degree requirements by completing Track 2.

Clinical Molecular Diagnostics Graduate Certificate

The Clinical Molecular Diagnostics graduate certificate provides students with an understanding of the molecular diagnostic tools utilized in a clinical laboratory setting. Students will analyze properties of eukaryotic, prokaryotic and viral genomes and investigate how diagnostic tools are employed for molecular diagnosis, identification, and disease prognosis. Diagnostic techniques addressed in the graduate certificate program include Real-Time PCR, Microarray technologies, FISH (Fluorescence in situ hybridization), Nucleic Acid Signal/Probe amplification techniques, Isothermal Nucleic Acid Amplification techniques, Sanger Sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing technologies.  Credits earned in this online certificate program may be transferred into the Masters in Clinical Molecular Diagnostics.
