Academic Programs

The theatre curriculum and practicum experiences at Northern are one-of-a-kind. We pride ourselves on the wealth of onstage and behind-the-scenes experiences our students get starting their freshman year.

Hands-On Learning Opportunities

Studying in the Department of Theatre and Dance provides opportunities to work in your field before you even graduate. You can perform on the Forest Roberts Theatre stage or in the Panowski Black Box Theatre, run a show as a stage manager, and learn the ins and outs of the business from professors who have worked professionally nationally and internationally in dance, musical theatre, and design. Heavy emphasis is placed on performance, design, and technical aspects of theatre in our major and minor programs.

Majoring in Theatre and Entertainment Arts

One of the finest and most active undergraduate theatre and dance programs in the country can be found at Northern Michigan University. If you’re interested in pursuing a theatre or dance related career and are willing to work hard to gain the necessary experience and skills, then a theatre and entertainment arts degree from NMU may be for you.
