'18 BS Chemistry and Mathematics
Meet Chloe Lewis, a 2018 BS in Chemistry and Mathematics alumna from Holt, MI. Chloe currently resides in Eau Claire, WI, where she is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
Brief Description of What You Do
I teach mathematics courses at all levels of the curriculum for math majors and non-majors alike. I also conduct research in an area of mathematics called "topology", the study of spaces, and in mathematics education, focusing on student validation of AI-generated proofs. UWEC undergraduate students collaborate with me on these research projects to prove new mathematical theorems.
What at NMU helped you most in your current role?
The small class sizes at NMU allowed me to get to know my professors and become an active part of the chemistry and mathematics departments. I worked in a chemistry research lab, I gained experience in the classroom as a teaching assistant in the math department, and I took directed study courses that helped me learn how to work more independently on mathematics. These experiences helped me develop skills I needed for graduate school. My experience at NMU was the reason I wanted to return to a public school with a liberal arts mission when I finished my PhD.
