Meet Ella Januszewski, an Hospitality Management major from Howell, MI. Ella plans to graduate in 2025.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I decided on Hospitality because growing up, my family was fortunate enough to travel a little bit and I loved visiting different places, observing different establishments. I always pictured myself in an environment that provides guest satisfaction and an amazing experience. I also love to travel, and would like a job that enforces me to do so.
What's an example of a cool, interesting or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major in the classroom (or lab)?
What's an example of an experience where you have used skills from the Hospitality Management program outside of the classroom?
Over the Summer I worked at an all inclusive dude ranch in Montana. Here I was able to practice complete guest satisfaction. I was on the waitstaff team. For breakfast and lunch we set up buffet style in a gorgeous pavilion that looked over the largest lake west of the Mississippi. For dinner, we offered a three course fine dining meal with a wine pairing. This job required the most guest interaction at the lodge. I was able to make personal connections with different families each week from all over the world.
Which class in the Hospitality Management program has been the most influential (so far)?
Guest Services is a very influential class. In this course, you learn how to become a server, interact with guests, deal with real industry problems, provide complete guest satisfaction, put together a menu, cook in a timely manner, and everything that a restaurant requires. This class allows you to practice running an operation in real life.
