Meet Kenneth E. Raisanen, a 1975 and 1980 alumnus (BS & MS) from Marquette, MI. Kenneth currently resides in Ontonagon, MI. Kenneth retired as an Geography / Earth Science teacher in 2018, and currently spending time volunteering as the General Manager for Ontonagon area Schools station WOAS FM 88.5, which he has been doing since 1997.

The Earth Science, Conservation, Astronomy, and Cartography classes were the backbone of my teaching career, particularly the field study courses.

Be that person who accepts new challenges. I learned so much by not shying away from trying new methods and developing new programs

WOAS FM had the frequency we have used for 45 bought out from under us in November of 2021. It was a devastating turn of events, but we raised the $3,000 need to upgrade our signal in three weeks. As word spread, our story ended up on the front page of the Detroit Free Press, on Mitch Albom"s radio show and on the NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. The media attention and public support was both educational and gratifying.
