Morgan Waller

Meet Morgan Waller, a Public Relations '16 and Master of Public Administration '18 Alumni from Chicago, Illinois. Morgan is currently the Vice President of Thornton Factional School District, sits on the Board of Directors of the NMU Alumni Association, and is the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Cook County.

As Vice President, my job is to ensure equity across the entire school district which makes up four high schools including an alternative school. I am also responsible for creating organizational culture from the top-down of the chain of command.

As Head Director of Communications and Public Affairs, I work directly under the office of the 6th district responding to crises or challenging situations, attending speaking engagements and hosting special events, and lastly, conducting quality control over branding and marketing on all forms of communication platforms while developing relationships and working with media outlets and companies.

NMU has taught me how to speak up, cultivate meaningful relationships, and stay involved. As with my current positions, it's my job to stay on top of the trends and give a professional opinion to help with certain decision-making.

I would encourage students to use their voices, speak up and make those connections! You would be surprised at how far you get by just saying what most people are thinking at times.

Fun fact: When I was in high school I started my very first business! It was a photography business that was inspired by my late uncle who passed two years ago. Although I do not currently have aspirations of becoming a photographer anymore, I do hope to use the skill more so as a hobby now. This year, I plan to travel and take breathtaking photos just as my uncle did!
