Meet William Garcia, an engineering design major from Valdosta, Georgia. He plans to graduate in May 2023.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
I wanted to experience somewhere completely new. New geography, people, and the most drastic change, the weather.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I was always good at drafting and had a lot of fun doing it in high school, so I decided to try and work towards a career with it.
What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
I'm involved with the club cross country here at Northern, and it has been so much fun being a part of a running community again. They're the best people on campus.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will go back to Georgia and seek employment related to my degree, or work for an Architecture firm I previously interned at.
Do you have any advice for someone who is considering NMU?
I would encourage anyone considering NMU to go for at least a year. This is a very unique place, and getting to experience it as a college student gives you tons of freedom to just go out and do stuff around here.
What are you thankful for?
I'm thankful for the Northern Lights Dining staff and the Club Cross Country Bandits. Everyone from either group has made my move up here seamless and exciting.
