Zumba gold is a program designed to enhance muscle tone and strength, coordination, cardiovascular endurance, agility, balance, and stability for the active older participant. The Zumba fitness program is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements. The movements can be modified to be appropriate for all fitness and ability levels, and intensity can be adjusted to fit individual needs.

HP 200 Physical Well Being 1 cr.

A lecture class on the foundations and principles of physical fitness and health. Students learn to recognize the hazards of being unfit and inactive, determine individual levels of physical fitness, and acquire the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a personal satisfaction level of physical fitness.

HP 201A Beginning Ballet Technique 1 cr.

Beginning ballet technique for the general student. The emphasis is placed on line, control, alignment and musicality. Students will learn elementary combinations utilizing fundamental classical ballet vocabulary.

HP 202 Asahi Nordic 1 cr.

Asahi is a Finnish mind-body health practice, designed to be accessible for people of all ages and in all states of health. Asahi is a series of movements done slowly and with full concentration. The first series is designed to relax the mind and body, followed by neck, shoulder and back, and finishing with balance and strength.

HP 203A Beginning Jazz Technique 1 cr.

Elementary jazz technique for the general student. Rhythmical integration of isolated movements with emphasis on dynamics, style and performance is stressed. The Luigi jazz technique will be followed.

Students learn skills and techniques of modern dance. This course, designed for the general student, will explore the basics of contemporary dance including: floor, barre, and center work, contemporary ballet technique elements, dynamic enchaînements in center and across the floor, choreography, and musicality.

Students learn skills and techniques of traditional western-style American dancing. The emphasis will be on square, contra and set dances. Country line and old fashioned partner dancing will also be taught.

HP 208B Ballroom and Latin Dancing 1 cr.

Students learn skills and techniques of American ballroom dancing. Waltz, tango, fox trot, rumba, cha cha and mambo will be emphasized. Polkas, party dances and mixers will also be taught.

Students learn skills and techniques of swing dancing. Emphasis will be on East Coast swing (or jitterbug), salsa, merengue and samba. West Coast swing will also be taught.
