Multimedia Production Major

The Multimedia Production major is a 46-47-credit program that prepares students for creative careers in television, radio, film, sports, music recording, online content creation, and corporate media. Students take courses in writing, announcing, audio and television production, media law, and mass communication, building both storytelling and technical expertise. Working in professionally equipped studios and labs, they gain hands-on experience producing award-winning content using industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Avid ProTools, with opportunities to earn professional certifications.

Electives allow students to specialize in areas like sports broadcasting, digital design, documentary production, and health communication. This major does not require a minor, giving students the flexibility to focus deeply on media production or pair their studies with complementary interests.

Multimedia Production Minor

Ever wanted to help produce an album, work behind the scenes on a TV or sports broadcast, or create your own podcast or documentary? The Multimedia Production Minor is a compact, 20-credit program that gives you a taste of the creative and technical side of media making from script to screen and sound. Students gain hands-on experience in writing, announcing, recording, and editing while using the same professional studios, labs, and production tools as Multimedia Production majors. It’s the perfect way to explore media creation and build flexible, real-world skills that pair well with any major.

Television at NMU

CAMS students gain hands-on broadcasting experience through two major regional stations housed right here in Marquette. WNMU-TV PBS, NMU’s nonprofit, non-commercial public television station, has served the Upper Peninsula and northeast Wisconsin since 1972, producing beloved local programs such as Ask the Doctors, Media Meet, and High School Bowl alongside national PBS favorites. Students also work with WZMQ TV-19, Marquette’s CBS affiliate and one of the area’s newest live-broadcast stations, contributing to news, sports, and production while learning directly from industry professionals. Together, these partnerships give students real-world media experience and the opportunity to tell stories that connect the U.P. and beyond.
