An Electrifying Dance Musical
Book by Dean Pritchford and Walter Bobbie, Music by Tom Snow, Lyrics by Dean Pritchford

I can’t stand still! Based on the film of the same name, this toe-tapping musical is set in the little southern town of Bomont, where dancing has been outlawed by the Reverend Shaw Moore after a terrible accident. New arrival Ren McCormack is quick to stir up trouble when he catches the eye of Moore’s rebellious daughter, Ariel, and comes up with the idea to throw a dance for the town. With an Oscar-nominated score and dynamic new songs, this show will make you want to cut loose!

NOTE: This show contains alcohol and mild adult themes.

FOOTLOOSE is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. www.concordtheatricals.com

A Portrait of Love, Loss, and Coming Together
WINNER OF THE 2021 PANOWSKI PLAYWRITING COMPETITION
Written by John Mabey

Join us for the world premiere of our 2021 Panowski Playwriting Award winner! Marie and her daughter, Rose Marie, are left adrift after their husband/father, Michael, passes away, leaving a shocking secret behind him. Arnie, Michael’s boyfriend, yearns to heal those who’ve been hurt and unexpectedly discovers a family of his own. Mirroring the erratic path of grief itself, this beautiful play flashes between the moments in time that change us all. A Complicated Hope explores the challenges of both finding a family of choice and letting yourself be found.

UP3D

This spring and summer, dazzle your eyes with a new exhibition at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center. The display “UP3D” will feature 60 large three-dimensional images from the stereograph collection of collector Jack Deo of Marquette.  The exhibition will be open from April 23 to August 27 in the Beaumier Center’s gallery at the corner of Seventh Street and Tracy Ave. Admission is free and open to the public. This is an expanded version of an exhibition the Center mounted in 2011.

All of the images in this display are early stereograph images from the late 19th century taken in communities and locations around the Upper Peninsula by some of the region’s best-known photographers. They feature mining and other industrial operations, cityscapes, fires, Native Americans and slices of life from the 1860s to the 1890s. Communities featured will be Ironwood, Sault Ste. Marie, Houghton, Marquette, Escanaba and many others.

The exhibition will also include stereographic cameras, viewers and equipment on loan from Don Balmer of Marquette and Jack Deo. These will include vintage ViewMaster viewers and cameras from the 1940s through the 1990s. In addition, there will be stereograph cameras and equipment from the late 19th and early 20th century on display.

The concept that you can use two slightly off drawings to create a three-dimensional effect is older than photography itself. With the advent of photography in the late 1830s and early 1840s, the idea of using early photographs to create 3D images was embraced quickly. Overtime, a whole industry in three dimensional images on cards and slides developed and photography studios around the globe sold them as souvenirs or as volumes. Photography studios around the U.P. started doing this as early as the 1860s, and these images became a popular way to promote the region’s unique natural surroundings.

The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive on the main floor of the Lydia M. Olson Library from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30th.

While there has been a significant and encouraging response to the dire need for blood across the nation, the American Red Cross needs more people to give in the weeks ahead to recover from its worst blood shortage in more than a decade.

As COVID is still highly present in our area, the Red Cross continues to engage safety precautions during our blood drives such as mandatory masks for all staff, donors and volunteers (regardless of vaccination status), disinfecting all surfaces, physical distancing and self-serve, pre-packaged snacks and drinks, still limiting service of any food or drink that is not individually packaged.

If interested in donating, please visit the link below to schedule an appointment: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=NMU.
