Poster describing the event, the classroom at the end of the world

Jamrich

Set in the near future, this work is being written and produced by high school students as an attempt to grapple with the myriad crises that they are set to inherit. The young artists are attempting to balance reality and hope, with a healthy dash of poetry, to illustrate the real and imminent impacts of our changing world and society on their lives and the lives of future generations.

Climate at Noon: Dr. Jon Barch - Your Brain on Nature

NMU Logo on bricks

Jamrich

This talk begins with a virtual nature experience, inviting the audience to reflect on how nature affects them personally. We then explore psychological theories that explain these effects, including the Biophilia Hypothesis, Attention Restoration Theory, and Stress Reduction Theory. These frameworks help us understand research findings on nature’s impact on physical health recovery, mental health, and prosocial behavior.

Throughout the discussion, we will also examine real-world applications in health care, urban planning, therapy, interior design, wellness programs, and more
