Appointment to External Organizations Policy

Purpose:
To establish guidelines for faculty and staff appointed to serve on an outside board, council, commission, etc., where such appointment is facilitated by the University.

Applicability:
All Faculty and Staff.

Policy:
Occasionally, Northern Michigan University may ask a faculty or staff member to represent the University on a commission, council, board, or similar body of a professional, non-profit, or civic organization. In such cases, the University has the option to cover the individual's expenses, which may include defense and indemnification in accordance with the Northern Michigan University Indemnification Policy.

Leave from the University for this participation must be taken at the University's convenience, but the faculty or staff member will not be charged with leave time.
