National Rural Health Day Essay Contest
In celebration of this year’s National Rural Health Day, recognized on November 16th, the Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan, the Michigan Center for Rural Health (Michigan's State Office of Rural Health) and the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health are partnering to extend an opportunity to all high school seniors who reside and attend school in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, are college/university bound in fall 2024, and intend to pursue a healthcare career.
Essay length should equate to 500 words minimum/1,000 words maximum and review criteria will focus on: 1) organization/style/format, 2) content (issue/solution), and 3) mechanics (grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.).

Oral Health Literacy Project
In thanks, once again, to the Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan, March is Reading Month, was celebrated by the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health. NMU students currently enrolled in the pre-dental and pre-medical academic tracks at Northern Michigan University joined forces to read and engage with second grade youth in an effort to increase awareness and education about proper oral hygiene.
