Vocal Auditions - Sign up for a Time!

Tuesday, September 1 - 6-8PM
Wednesday, September 2 - 6-8PM

Vocal auditions are a max of 90-seconds. They should feature a song and monologue. (Combined song and monologue should be 90 seconds total - not 90 seconds each). We want to see a song you can act through. For your song and monologue - choose material that can showcase your range of emotions in your selections!

Dance Audition - Select a time on your audition form!

Thursday, September 3
Beginner - 5:30-6:30 PM
Int/Adv - 6:45-8 PM - auditionee should select this time on the audition form if they have 6+ years of dance experience. 

A short dance combination will be taught during the audition. Please wear comfortable clothes, jazz shoes, or non-street shoes that you can move in, with hair pulled back away from your face.

Callbacks

Only those listed on the callback list that is emailed out AFTER dance auditions will be required to attend. 
The callback list will be sent out after the dance audition on Thursday.
Friday, September 4 - 5:30-8 PM

Rehearsals begin: Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Mandatory rehearsals (no conflicts accepted): October 19-November 4, 2026

Performances: November 5-8, 2026 at the Forest Roberts Theatre

Choose One Option: 

Option A: Solo, Speaking, Singing, and Dancing

To be considered for a solo, speaking, singing, and dancing part you music complete the following: 

1. Vocal Audition: A 90-second audition featuring a song and monologue. (Combined song and monologue should be 90 seconds total - not 90 seconds each). We want to see a song you can act through. For your song and monologue - choose material that can showcase your range of emotions in your selections. 
2. Dance Audition: Attend either dance audition time and participate in the dance.
   1. Thursday, September 3
      1. Beginner - 5:30-6:30 PM
      2. Int/Adv - 6:45-8 PM

Option B: Singing and Dancing

To be considered for a singing and dancing role in the production:

1. Vocal Audition: A 45-second song cutting. We want to see a song you can act through - show us your range of emotions!
2. Dance Audition: Attend either dance audition time and participate in the dance.

      2. Int/Adv - 6:45-8 PM

Option C: Advanced Dancer

To be considered for an advanced dance role in the production (not singing/speaking) you must: 

1. Dance Audition: Attend the Intermediate/Advanced Dance call on Thursday, September 3 from 6:45-8 PM.

We ask that you email your accompaniment track to us at sayt@nmu.edu by Sunday, August 30th so we can put it on our playlist for auditions. 

If you are not able to send in your song ahead of time we ask that you please bring in your own speaker (a small bluetooth speaker usually works). 

If an  auditionee is inexperienced, and has never auditioned for anything before they can come with only a song cutting for their audition. 

We prefer a song cutting and monologue, or song cutting and a short poem that they memorize and act out but we understand that it can be intimidating to do all of that on the first try! 

We want to see how each young person can use their imagination to act like a different character, and how they interpret text.

Some things to ask yourself to get into the character/when trying to interpret the text: 

• What is my character feeling? Why are they saying this? What do they want out of this interaction?
• This will help you act with the right feeling — happy, sad, excited, angry, or scared!

There is no cost to audition. If you are cast, registration for the production is $150 for the first child and $75 for each additional family member. Financial Aid is available.

Rehearsals will take place between 5-9pm on weekdays (until tech/dress/performance week, when rehearsals will last longer), and in 3-4 hour time frames, between the hours of 10am-8pm, on weekends. 

We will do our best to base the rehearsal schedule on youth conflicts that are listed on your audition form!
