Telephone Services Policy

Purpose:

This policy is to explain the telecom services provided, the procedures established to request these services and the processes for the charging of these services.

Applicability:

All Faculty and Staff.

Policy:

Any/all requests for telecommunications services on behalf of Northern Michigan University, whether on or off campus, must be handled through the Network Infrastructure Center.


The services provided by the University’s Network Infrastructure Center includes the following:

Repair and maintenance of all University telephone, network and low voltage infrastructure including copper cabling and fiber for voice, data, video and fire alarm systems. Requests for additions, moves and changes to existing departmental telephone and network connections. Long distance service is negotiated by the Network Infrastructure Center and available on any campus phone by request.

Repair, maintenance or requests for additions, moves or changes for services listed above are supported and maintained by Network Infrastructure Center. Service calls are accepted via email to NIC@nmu.edu or during normal business hours by calling the NIC Help Desk at 906-227-1995.

Routine maintenance is performed at no cost to end users. Additions, moves, and changes are charged based on actual time and materials used.
