Introduction to risk management; including: insurance, loss exposure, regulation, insurance carriers, reinsurance, marketing, underwriting, and claims adjusting. This course helps prepare students for the INS 21 national examination administered by the Insurance Institute of America.

Development of practical solutions for routine problems faced in personal financial affairs. Major topics to be discussed are tax return preparation, tax planning, insurance, property, consumer credit, financial institutions, investing and other current topics.

Financial management of corporations; management of short, intermediate and long term funds; capital structure; securities markets; and financing growth and development; emphasis is on interpretation of financial accounting measurements.

Financial decision making in the modern corporation; issues include capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, working capital management, corporate reorganization and liquidation. Lectures, problem solving and case studies will be used to stimulate and reinforce learning.

Technical analysis is used by banks, brokerage houses, investment companies and investors all over the world. This class introduces the student to the history and current state of technical analysis. Students develop a foundation of technical analysis tools that will allow them to analyze financial investments from a perspective of risk, return and timing. Course time is divided between classroom instruction and laboratory experience in the College of Business trading room.

Commercial property and liability insurance lines; includes commercial property, business-owners policy, commercial liability, workers’ compensation, professional liability, environmental and aviation liability insurance. Course helps prepare students for the INS 23 national examination administered by the insurance institute of America.

Summarizes and ties together the materials presented in the entrepreneurship core of classes. Extends the student’s knowledge in this area through the incorporation of cases based on creating and managing new business ventures; this includes various methods of raising capital for new and growing ventures and a thorough examination of the legal issues involved in such an undertaking.

Property and casualty insurance company operations; topics include insurance financials, property underwriting, liability underwriting, insurance pricing, liability and property claims; loss control practices, marketing and selling insurance, reinsurance, management, and strategic planning. This course covers the inner workings of the industry.

Estate planning principles and techniques as they relate to financial planning. Includes methods of property transfer, estate planning documentation, principles of estate, gift and trust taxation, features and classification of trusts, the use of life insurance in the estate planning process and tools and techniques for general estate planning.
