Second Language Acquisition

EN 416 Second Language Acquisition 4 cr.

A survey of theoretical models and research in second language acquisition. Topics include language acquisition in children and adults, psychological and social factors, SLA research design, and implications for classroom language teaching. 

English Grammar and Usage

EN 415 English Grammar and Usage 4 cr.

A survey of modern standard English grammar and usage. Topics include lexical categories, phrase structure, clause structure, modification, subordination, discourse functions of grammar, punctuation, and the acquisition of grammatical features. 

The Teaching of the English Language

EN 304 The Teaching of the English Language 4 cr.

Introduction to linguistic principles and grammatical practices in English. Includes analysis of English language development; English phonology, morphology, and syntax; application of principles of language acquisition and use; and design of K-12 student-learning activities focused on written and spoken English for future teachers of English language arts. 

Introduction to Sustainability

GC 269 Introduction to Sustainability 4 cr.

An overview of the basic principles of sustainability and sustainable systems (environmental, social, economic) from global, national, regional and local perspectives.

Notes: Field work may be required. Contact instructor for more information.

Directed Studies

HON 498 Directed Studies 1-4 cr.

Directed individual studies. This course requires regular meetings with the instructor throughout the semester.  The course will vary depending on the needs of the student and the expertise of the instructor.

World Cultures: Social Sciences

HON 302 World Cultures: Social Sciences 4 cr.

 

Critical reading and comparative analysis will be used to explore a non-western European culture from a social science perspective. The discipline (anthropology, economics, geography, health, history, political science, and/or sociology) through which a specific culture and its people are explored will vary with faculty expertise.

World Cultures: A Humanities Perspective

HON 301 World Cultures: A Humanities Perspective 4 cr.

Critical reading and comparative analysis will be used to explore a non-western European culture from a humanities perspective. The discipline through which a specific culture and its people are explored will vary with faculty expertise.
