Only a small fraction of our collections have been digitized due to copyright restrictions and limited staff time. Most of our collections are still only available physically at the archives. If what you are looking for has not been digitized and you cannot come to the archives in-person, we can conduct limited research for you. See our Services and Fees page for details.
Below is an explanation of how you can search our collections.
Although online databases are a great starting point, we always encourage reaching out to us at archives@nmu.edu or stopping by the archives for additional assistance. The databases can be tricky to use and we may know of relevant collections that aren't obvious.
ArchivesSpace: Search Physical Collections
We create finding aids--documents describing and inventorying a collection of records--for each of our physical collections. These finding aids can be searched in ArchivesSpace.
UPLINK: Search Digital Collections
Collections that have been digitized are available via UPLINK, the Upper Peninsula Digital Network. UPLINK contains digital collections from 30 different heritage organizations across the UP, not just the NMU Archives. You can learn more about how to use UPLINK on the UPLINK Help page.
