Nolan Bergstrom

Meet Nolan Bergstrom, a 2018 alumnus from Negaunee, MI. Nolan is a community planner for the city of Kalamazoo, MI, where he currently resides.

Brief Description of What You Do

I work on engagement activities and project implementation for transportation, sustainability, and neighborhood based projects. I started this role in 2022 after a year as an Americorps Member. I went to Western Michigan University from 2018 - 2020 and completed my M.S. in Geography. P.S. I hope EEGS would bring back a Community Planning degree!

What at NMU helped you most in your current role?

Faculty relationships and the affordability of NMU helped me a lot, especially being a first generation student.

What advice would you give current students?

Don't be afraid to change your major, life is too short to complete something like a degree just for the sake of it. Recognize it doesn't lock you into a career, either.

Are there personal interests and/or activities you care to share?

I enjoy photography, traveling, the smell of coffee, and sleeping.
